MY TRANSFORMATION
Learning to accept who I once was - with all my flaws and sins - brought me internal peace and allowed me to have perspective as to who I wanted to become.
Embracing my past rather than rejecting it, or being ashamed of it, and having the courage to share it as an act of service is an amazing opportunity.
Understanding that there is always a greater purpose behind one’s hardships and struggles is truly liberating.
wHO I WAS
In my early twenties, when I had recently graduated college, I landed a corporate job and essentially thought I had it all figured out, but really I was lost and completely oblivious to it. My actions and behavior were not in alignment with my true values, my outlook on life was one of complacency (work, exercise during the week, partying on weekends), I opted for comfort and the chase of short-term pleasures. I had relegated my faith, stopped seeking personal growth, given up on soccer, disregarded my health and struggled with drinking alcohol.
Insecurity and low self-esteem were my major battles. I did all that I could to fit in and please others, even if that meant going against my own values and beliefs. I was terrified of being by myself, I placed a high importance on my external looks, I valued possessions, status and the perception others would have of me.
WHO I HAVE BECOME
Pursuing my passions again and embarking on difficult endeavors - from which I learned and grew in ways I could have never imagined - was how I chose to try to turn my life around for the better. I slowly became completely sober, began experimenting with healthier habits, started to gain better perspectives and realized what I am capable of if I’m willing to persevere, follow my curiosity and not let fear prevent me from acting on my thoughts and ideas. It’s been a liberating and healing journey that completely changed my life and continues to inspire me to chase what really matters and live a more meaningful life. All human beings go through pain and suffering, and I have learned that by enduring it, one is capable of not only stimulating personal growth and fulfillment, but also of inspiring others to do the same and bring about positive long-lasting change.
Ephesians 4:22-24
You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
